3 Neuromarketing tips to boost your social

Let’s start with a game. What does a picture of a person yawning, a bleeding hand and a puppy have in common? All three pictures cause a strong reaction. In the first case, we yawn, in the second we look away and the last image makes us smile.

These reactions are caused by ‘mirror neurons’ which are responsible for feeling empathy. For instance, if a chips commercial includes the sound of opening the bag of chips or munching, it creates an exciting empathetic reaction as we all have experienced many times.

Here are three tips to leverage mirror neurons for creating engaging social media graphics:

1) Colour and brightness

Bright images are associated positively, they create a sense of security, clarity of the message, and credibility. Dark images are associated with mystery, it arouses curiosity but they can also suggest a threat.

2) Get moving

We are naturally focused on watching movement. In the past, it was associated with the need to fight for survival. An example of using movement in a static graphic is by drawing a finger or arrow to the key advertising message.

3) Challenge your customer

The human mind loves puzzles and focusing on unusual images. The fact that it can’t solve the puzzle immediately makes the advertising message more memorable.
